As the clock tower struck dawn
The dew rose from its heavy night sorrow
Birds awoke, as if time which had once stood still
Now regained its employ
Silence hung in the air and waited
As if with baited breath
For the sounds of day to release its quarry
Then from nowhere the heavens rang
With the sweet melancholic song of morning
The sun cast its shadow on the sleeping land
And stirred the earth
With a warmth of kiss as tender as any can know
Clouds floated in a sea so blue and tranquil
Plying their trade
And spreading their form for all the world to see
For they are the time travellers
Unhindered by time or fortune
Urged on with the cool assuring grace of the wind
That rustles through the trees
And soothes pained eyes
And from a beginning so replete
The morning broke through every window
Entering the heart of every man
Filling him with new life and hope
Calling him to a new day
Signalling the end of rest
And the view is lost
Behind a backdrop of a world too busy to notice
Until another day dawned
